What is White Quartz
You probably have heard the name Quartz before. If you haven’t you better look it up. In our opinion, it’s definitely one of the best materials to be used for your kitchen. 90% of the Quartz slabs that get sales are the white design.
While some people find White Quartz expensive, you can always buy the material from lesser-known brand name companies, and chip off of the price.
The Characteristics of Quartz
Quartz is one of those special materials that you a lot to benefit from, and a lot less to lose. Here are some quick facts about Quartz:
● Stain Resistance: Quartz is a material that is an engineered stone, has allowed itself to be incorporated with high stain resistance. Approximately 7% of your Quartz countertops are composed of petroleum-based resin and pigments. This combination allows your countertop to have a very low absorption rate, but we highly recommend not turning your worktop into a place for painting and such.
● Quartz & Heat: Quartz has excellent resistance to heat, and is even on par with Granite. While a Quartz surface can deal with heat, we always suggest that you place a hot pad before placing a hot pan on your countertop.
● Maintenance: Because of Quartz’s high resistance to almost everything, maintenance is easy to come by. You can even use Clorox wipes to clean your countertop without any issue.
The different kinds of Materials that you should also consider
Besides Quartz there are many other types of slabs you can use. One of the most popular ones that you hear is Granite and Marble. Both of them being a favorite for many years, but we would also like to introduce you to Quartzite. It may have a similar name to Quartz, but we can assure you it’s not the same material.
Quartz VS Quartzite
As we said, both of these stones are different. Quartz is an engineered stone while Quartzite is a natural stone. Moreover, Quartzite countertops start off as sandstones, which under a natural process of heat and pressure are fused with sparkly quartz crystals to form Quartzite. On the other hand, Quartz is engineered with the same minerals that are found in Quartzite, but through a human process, they are bound with crystal, resins, pigments, and other materials such as bits of glass. This makes it one of the most durable materials out there
Typically, Quartzite comes in a shade of white or light grey colors, but minerals in the stone can also transform the slab to have pink, gold, or reddish-brown hues.
There are a few important factors you must consider before jumping on the Quartz bandwagon, and one of them is the existence of Marble. Marble is a natural metamorphosed limestone or dolomite rock that continues to be popular across many countries.
Marble has a beauty like no other, making it a fool-proof plan if you want to make your kitchen look elegant and timeless. As a natural stone, each marble slab’s coloring and veining are exclusive, like that of Crema Marfil Marble and Calacatta Marble. At the end of the day, it’s up to your personal preference to choose which one is best for you, but if you’re looking for a classic, then this is the slab you should go with.
Granite and Quartz are two names that have been thrown together for many years. Both of these materials have dominated the worktop market and are always in high demand.
In order to check who is really the best between the two, we went to do a few tests to check. Here are the results:
● Stain Resistance: A test that has been done with the Consumers Report stated the following: “We pipe half-inch splotches of potential offenders onto each surface—hot vegetable oil, hot coffee, chocolate syrup, and grape juice, to name a few—and record effects after 20 hours. With certain liquids, one which included food coloring and beet juice, Quartz fared a little bit better earning a rating in this CR test that’s 2.3 points higher (out of 100) than Granite”.
● Appearance: Every Granite slab is unique and different from the other because it’s a natural stone. On the other hand, Quartz is manufactured and because of that may find a few similarities.
● Scratch Resistance: Quartz has a bit of an edge of over Granite. Don’t get us wrong, Granite is a splendid material when it comes to resistance, but the way Quartz is manufactured gives it an up on durability.
