Translucent Countertops

As you may all know there are a couple of translucent types of slabs. Translucent stones are the ones that light transmits through them. The slabs can be backlit and become these beautiful; art piece in your home.

Backlit Onyx

Onyx is a natural stone that is a calcareous stone, formed by dissolving limestone and redeposited as a new kind of stone. In caves, drip water forms onyx as stalactites and stalagmites. Onyx slabs are very fragile stones, but if it is fabricated and installed by the correct company you should have n problem with it for many years. The slabs of onyx come in many different colors and variations.

Backlit Quartzite

Quartzite is a hard-metamorphic rock that originated from sandstone. Quartzite is a natural stone and mostly used for kitchen countertops because of its durability, it is much more durable then Onyx. Most will tell you quartzite has the look of marble but more durable. There are a couple of stones that have a translucent effect like Cristallo and Lumix Quartzites.
